Antique English Georgian Marble Fireplace
A very unusual model of this type of late 18th early 19th century English fireplace. Having double cushion mouldings to jambs and frieze, but also another roundel carving to top of jambs, which are then surmounted by carved roundel end blocks. All beneath a double reeded shelf. Executed in highly varigated “Old English” Marble, named after its use at that time however an Italian variant of Carrara, which is strongly veined against a pale background. George III period between 1790-1810
