An English 19th Century Statuary and Jasper Marble Fireplace
An early to mid 19th c fireplace in Statuary white and jasper marbles. The fluted pilaster jambs stood on foot blockings, with Jasper marble ingrounds, surmounted by carve corner blocks of classical urns and drapery. The frieze with centre tablet of a large well carved urn of gadroon, beaded and flute design with drapery. Flanked on either side by inset panels of Italian Jasper and all beneath a stepped and moulded shelf. Restored using all original components, a very good example of surround in this taste. Possibly late Regency or William IV
