A very finely carved 19th century Louis XVI style fireplace in light Blue Turquin and Italian statuary white marbles. The jambs with carved panels of descending ribbon tied blooms and foliage, surmounted by carved square paterae all in Statuary white marble. The frieze with raised fielded centre plaque of Putti studying astrology, flanked on either side by panels of carved Greek key, again in conforming Statuary white marble. All beneath a wide tiered and moulded mantel. A sophisticated and well executed surround in superior quality marbles.
