An Italianate style 19th century fireplace carved in Istrian stone with semi-precious inlaid marble frieze panels of Egyptian Imperial red porphyry, ancient green Peloponnesian Porphyry and Lazurite, supported on similarly panelled jambs. The jambs surmounted with carved ionic capitals, the frieze having carved strung beading. The tiered shelf with dental work and acanthus leaf. A rare and very attractive piece. An almost Identical piece in situ at Highclere Castle. Attributed to Sir Charles Barry, Architect of Highclere Castle
